John and Marlyn Wellman
The former, Marlyn Ruth Polmateer and John Edward Wellman were married on June 22, 1963, at The Salvation Army in Escanaba with the bride's uncle, Major Robert Johnson, officiating. Attending the couple were maid of honor, the late Donna Bingman, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were sisters, Jackie Smith and the late Bonnie Evans. Flower girl was Cindy Evans, the bride's niece. Best man was the late Bill Wellman, the groom's brother. Groomsmen were the late Bob Wellman, the groom's brother, and Dan Evans, brother-in-law of the couple. Ring bearer was Kevin Palmgren, the bride's nephew.
John retired from New Page after 41 years and Marlyn was a stay-at-home mom, raising four daughters and working part-time at various jobs as the children grew older. Together they attend the Escanaba Salvation Army and enjoy spending time with their family.
John's hobbies include camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, photography, and especially his walks with his dog, Sasha, and his daughter Dawn, grandson Keaton, and their dog Ringo.
Marlyn enjoys camping, sewing, quilting, shopping (especially Christmas shopping trips every year with her family), and talking on the phone.
In celebration of their anniversary and other family events happening, they are planning a trip this month to Florida with all family members in attendance for a relaxing stay on the ocean and time visiting Disney-World.
The couple are the parents of four daughters: Brenda (Don) Duwe of Milwaukee Wis.; Cherie (Joe) Briggs of Bark River; Amy Wellman of Buffalo Minn.; and Dawn (Brian) Hammond of Gladstone.
They also have 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a dog, Sasha, and horse, Prince.
