There are two comments I would like to share regarding the American Legion Gun and Knife Show held in Bark River last weekend.
My first comment is directed toward the American Legion in Bark River for displaying their gun show sign in front of the Bark River-Harris School on US 2 and 41. (This was a large sign so the students at the school could read in a obvious location.) Was this intentional? How cruel and insensitive the Legion could be to remind these young children of the Dec. 14, 2012, mass shooting in Newtown, Conn. Shame on you!
My other comment is to recognize the leadership skills displayed by Mr. Jason Lockwood, the school's superintendent.
When I was so appalled by their American Legion sign I pulled my car into the school parking lot and looked for his office. This was at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, the busiest part of the day for a school administrator; I stated who I was and my concern about the sign. He didn't question me but could see I was a concerned citizen and he didn't hesitate but said he would personally take down the sign! He said that the Legion did not even ask to put up the sign.
We should all thank Mr. Lockwood for this brave act and hats off to you Mr. Lockwood.
