Leah M. Olson

RAPID RIVER - Leah M. Olson, 80, of 8161 Garth Point Lane, Rapid River, Mich., passed away Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness.

Leah was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Wells, Mich. She was the daughter of Alphonse and Marie (Thomas) Gardner. Leah was united in marriage to Donald Olson on Dec. 2, 1950, in Green Bay, Wis. They resided in Escanaba until 1955 when they moved to Wells to raise their four children. They resided in Wells until 1991 when they moved to their current home on Garth Point Lane.

Leah was an excellent cook and her family's favorites included her fried chicken as well as her potato salad. She loved being surrounded by her family and spending as much time as possible with them. She also enjoyed going to the casino, dining out, and going for Sunday drives. Don and Leah also treasured the 17 winters they were able to spend in Phoenix, Ariz. She will be sadly missed.

In addition to her husband, Don, of 62 years, survivors include: children, Richard (Kathy) Olson of Vulcan, Mich., Wayne Olson of Bark River, Lynn (Gary) Bisson of Escanaba, and Cindy (Larry) Couillard of Escanaba; sisters, Josephine Grenier, Delphine Rudden, Mary Alice McGillis and Theresa Akerly, all of Escanaba; brother, Donald (Sandra) Gardner of Rapid River; grandchildren, Scott (Kim) Olson, John (Kelly) Olson, Lindsey Olson, Ashley (Josh) Franklyn, Matt Olson, Kimberly Bisson, Brian (Jamie Klug) Bisson and Jeff (Karol Hakenjos) Couillard; 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, her two sisters, Lucille Comstock, Rosemary Beauchamp, and three brothers, Eugene, Raymond, and William Gardner, preceded Leah in death.

Leah's family will receive friends on Monday, Sept. 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Leah M. Olson will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Louis L. Hague officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Wells Township Hall. Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, Mich.
