ISHPEMING - The Gladstone Braves tennis team received a balanced effort, taking three of four singles and splittlng their doubles matches, resulting in their first team victory of the season as they defeated Ishpeming 5-3 Monday.

Two matches went to tiebreakers and the Braves won them both. At No. 2 singles, John Hammer prevailed over Guillermo Ansede in the second set, winning a hard fought match 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. At No. 2 doubles Spencer Pederson and Jake Kujala took care of the Hematites' Jordan Musser and Josh Penrose 6-3, 7-6(6-2).

"I thought the team played much better today," said coach Dan Williams. "One and two doubles played much more aggressively and that helped a lot. John Hammer at No. 2 singles had a marathon match and was able to pull it out.

"It was a great team effort. I think this win will give the team some much needed confidence."
