Dorothy Mae Haynes

RAPID RIVER - Dorothy Mae Haynes, 94, of Rapid River, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.

Dorothy was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Milton, Wis., the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Fetherston) Tess. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Milton High School. She was united in marriage to Earl Haynes on Dec. 15, 1937. They remained in the Milton area until they moved to Fort Atkinson, Wis., in 1968. Dorothy was employed as a housekeeper at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital from 1972 to 1984. In 1988, Dorothy moved to Rapid River, Mich., where she lived out the remainder of her years. She was an active member of the Rapid River Congregational Church, serving on the women's fellowship committee and was also active with the Rapid River Senior Center. Dorothy was a foster parent for many years. She opened her home to 32 children over the years. Dorothy also enjoyed knitting, baking, jigsaw puzzles and gardening.

Dorothy is survived by a son, Robert (Jean) Haynes of Green Bay, Wis.; three daughters, Sharon Ginter of Salt Lake City, Utah, Sue (Terry) Alexander of Rapid River, Mich., Tammy (Dan) Sauk of Stoughton, Wis.; a sister, Margaret Noss of Brodhead, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; a daughter, Cathy Felker; granddaughter, Heidi Haynes; great grandson, David Haynes; her parents; a brother, Edward Tess and a sister, Ruth Fields.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Rafuse officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
