Peter Joseph Stock

GLADSTONE - Peter Joseph Stock, 74, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his home in Gladstone.

Pete was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Escanaba, the son of John and Theresa (Standing) Stock. He was raised in Gladstone and was a 1956 graduate of Holy Name High School .

He was a lifelong member of All Saints Church in Gladstone.

Shortly after graduation, Pete was accepted into the local electrician's apprenticeship program. He enlisted in the United States Navy on Feb. 26, 1959. Throughout his enlistment, Pete was stationed aboard the USS Enterprise, the first nuclear aircraft carrier, proudly serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis, until his honorable discharge on Feb. 25, 1962.

On Dec. 16, 1978, Pete was united in marriage to the former Mary Howe and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone. Pete worked as an electrician and held a master's license. In 2011 he was presented with an award for being a member of International Brotherhood of Electricians for 55 years. He retired from M&J Electric in 2000.

After retirement Pete enjoyed spending his winters in Florida with his wife Mary. He loved playing the harmonica at the Brookside Bluff Jam sessions entertaining his fellow seniors.

Pete won many trophies at car shows with his 55 Chevy. He was a member of Krusin Klassics. Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, Pete enjoyed being the "Chief Proof Reader" of his wife Mary's column, for the Lifestyles section of the Daily Press. He will be deeply missed.

Pete leaves to survive his loving wife, Mary; sons, Jim Stock of Gladstone, Jerry (Pamela) Chuman of Frisco, Texas; daughters, Christine (Matthew) DeWan of Green Bay, Wis., Jeanne (Bruce) Albert of Wallace, Joan (Jim) Richer of Bark River, Deborah Russell of Gladstone, Elizabeth (Craig) Black of Bremerton, Wash.; grandchildren, Erin (Jared), Michael, Ann, Courtney (Tristan), Scott, Shanna (Mike), Craig, Mary, Riley, Tori, Nora and Peter; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Alivia, Penelope "P.J.," and Katelyn; brothers-in-law, John Zimmermann of Gladstone, Raymond (Eileen) Howe of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Betty Stock of Gladstone, Betty Jean Stock of Gladstone, Elaine Stock of Green Bay, Wis., Patricia (Jim) Woods of Frankfort, Ill. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa; brothers, Victor, Paul, and Norman Stock; sister, Marilyn Zimmermann; grandson, Evan; granddaughter, Sarah Lynn.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites will follow visiting hours at 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Mass of Christian Burial services to celebrate the life of Peter Joseph Stock will follow military rites at 5 p.m. at All Saints Church with Rev. Fr. Ronald Timock officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Parish Hall. Pete will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
