Students at Escanaba Upper Elementary School made a sweet deal at the beginning of Reading Month: if they met the goal of reading 1,000 books, Principal Steve Martin would be hit in the face with three pies. The students met and exceeded the goal by reading 1,250 books which meant the top readers from each grade got a chance to throw a pie Thursday. Above, fifth-grader Madison Block splatters a chocolate pie on Martin’s face during a special assembly at the school. Fourth-grader Skylynn Doss and sixth-grader Sierra Brown were the top readers and pie-throwers for their grades.
