MANISTIQUE - Three people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident, the Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Department said Friday in a news release.

The accident - involving a loaded school bus, logging truck and three passenger vehicles - occurred Thursday at 7:45 a.m. on U.S. 2 about 6 miles east of Manistique.

A Manistique Area Schools bus containing 24 children was stopped for loading and two passenger vehicles were stopped behind it. A logging truck was unable to stop and struck the second vehicle, sending it into the ditch on the right side of the highway. The logging truck went into the ditch on the left. Another vehicle then impacted the car that was stopped behind the bus, causing it to collide with the bus.

The children were transferred to another bus and continued on to school. Three individuals were taken by ambulance to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital with non life threatening injuries, according to the release.

Names of the drivers involved and the injured have not been released.

The Michigan State Police, Department of Natural Resources and Manistique Public Safety assisted at the scene.
