CRYSTAL FALLS - Additional details have been released regarding an unarmed robbery that occurred Sunday in Caspian.

Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano said that the incident occurred at 6:19 p.m. Sunday at the Citgo gas station in Caspian.

The suspect, 22-year-old Michael Dean Beauchamp, of Iron River, is accused of forcefully stealing beer and cigarettes from the clerk, said Valesano.

As Beauchamp was leaving the store, he was tackled and detained by two customers who were in the store at the time. He was held on the ground until an Iron River Police Department officer arrived and put him in handcuffs.

Shortly after, a deputy from the Iron County Sheriff's Department arrived and an altercation ensued when the officers attempted to secure the scene.

Beauchamp has already been charged with felony counts of unarmed robbery and resisting and obstructing a police officer. He is also listed as a habitual offender-fourth.

Valesano said that Beauchamp was taken into custody and lodged in the Iron County Jail. He remains in jail on a $20,000 cash bond.

Beauchamp is scheduled for a preliminary examination in Iron County Trial Court on Feb. 11.
