MARQUETTE - Vivian Irene Gutzman, 92, formerly of 222 S. Fifth St., Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday evening, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Norlite Nursing Center, in the loving comforting care of her family and the caregivers of the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Vivian was born in Gwinn on Dec. 29, 1920, one of 13 children to Liami and Samuel Hakala. She was raised in Eben. She was of Finnish heritage and spoke Finnish fluently.
She met Ray Gutzman, the one and only love of her life, in Marquette and they were married in 1941.
Vivian is survived by her three children, Diane (Lysle) Elder, Dale (Samantha) Gutzman, and Debra (Robert) Vidlund; seven grandchildren, Lysle (Kathi) Elder, Mark (Mary) Elder, Stacey Elder, Michele Johnson, Erin Gutzman, Rachel (Rob) Tedder, and Naomi (Tony) Evans; 12 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kelsea, Christopher and Brandi Elder, Tyler and Addison Johnson, Vivian and Sophia Tedder, and Chloe Evans; step-great-grandchildren, Brenda Barra, Kristin Jaeger and Reid Tedder; one step-great-great-grandchild, Brekon Barra; former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Gutzman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 1970; sisters, Helga, Bertha, and Anna; and a brother, Leslie.
Burial will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Marquette in the spring.
