GLADSTONE - A winning lottery ticket worth $100,000 was sold recently at a store in Gladstone.
According to the Michigan Lottery, a Fantasy 5 player matched all five numbers in the Dec. 15 drawing, winning the $100,000 amount. The ticket, an easy-pick, was purchased at the Gladstone Super Valu Inc. located at 409 N. 9th St. in Gladstone.
This is not the first time someone has won a large sum of money locally from the lottery. The Grain 'n' Grape in Wells sold a $141 million winning ticket to Steve Mays during the Oct. 29, 2010 drawing.
More than 97 cents of every dollar spent on lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers.
The contribution to schools in 2012 was a record $778.4 million. Since its beginnings in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has contributed more than $17 billion to education in the state.
