Christmas Choir Festival

December 20, 2012
Daily Press

EDITOR:

I want to clarify some misinformation in the article on Dec. 13 re: the 10th year of the Community Christmas Choir Festival. It did not start up as a result of brainstorming by Loretta (Albert) DeChristopher and Marie Peterson as a result of the "Battle of the Choirs." The "Battle" of the choirs (between St. Anne's and 1st Presbyterian) was held Nov. 10, 2002, at Bethany Lutheran Church. The result was a diplomatic "draw," by referee Rev. Dick Hutton.

The following year, my wife, who directs the Bay de Noc Choral Society, as well as the 1st Presbyterian Church choir, decided to have a concert to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in October (27th) of 2003 with the Choral Society. Many of you may remember it. At any rate, having a Choral Society concert late in October would not leave enough time to prepare a full Christmas concert for the Choral Society, so my wife Ann came up with the idea of having a Christmas Concert with several of the local church choirs participating. This is how it got started. Ann did not have the time to organize this the following year, so Loretta and Marc Tall took on the task of doing this for the next nine years. Just wanted to clear up some possibly foggy memories.
