Big Brothers Big Sisters touches lives

December 18, 2012
Daily Press

EDITOR:

As a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Board and a "big sister" for the past eight years I know we as an organization have so much to be thankful for because it is with your help we are able to continue to touch the heart of a child.

There are many reasons why people are determined and passionate about organizations or other events in our community, but for me it is a little girl and her two sister's story that touches me the most. Several years ago, a single mother of three passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind her precious little girls. Now they are being raised by their dad and he realized that the girls would benefit from some extra support - a mentor. I am so happy that because of BBBS, these three little girls found their "angel" matches - and in the words of one of the little girls to her "big sister" (her mentor) "I know my mommy is in heaven because she sent me you." I hope and pray that we can make a difference in every child's life as we are doing for her.

There are many children in need; whether it because of the loss of a parent, or a child of one of our soldiers who was called away to fight for our freedom or a child that just needs a little extra support from someone who cares - a mentor. We have a waiting list of children who need us.

Please consider supporting the "Gift of Friendship Campaign" in your holiday gift giving. Join me in giving children of our community hope, dreams, and love. Children are a wonderful investment. BBBS, 1100 Ludington St., Suite 302, Escanaba, MI 49829

Many blessings to you and your family this holiday season.
