ESCANABA - GFWC recently held its 95th annual District V Regional meeting at the Joseph Heirman Center at Bay College. Hosted by Escanaba GFWC, and club president, Dianne Lahtinen, "Women and Healthy Hearts" was the theme for the event.
Guest speakers were Dr. William Shaw, cardiologist at OSF St. Francis Hospital, Amy Anderson, from Marquette General - A Duke LifePoint Hospital, Rampart EMS, and Catherine Logan, an Escanaba resident who was instrumental in a life-saving event when she administered CPR.
The District V region includes Escanaba, Manistique, Menominee, Iron Mountain, Kingsford and Newberry. This district has the largest number of GFWC members in the state of Michigan. Escanaba won the State award this year for the most increased memberships.

GFWC state president, Marty Groleau, is from Manistique, and the GFWC district president, Carol Mick, is a resident of Menominee.
GFWC is the oldest and largest group of volunteer women dedicated to improving their communities. Escanaba's GFWC will celebrate its 100th birthday in the summer of 2013.
The informative day ended with tours of the Bonifas Art Center and Sayklly's Candy Factory.
