ESCANABA - Several crime incidents have been recently reported in Escanaba including a robbery early this morning and several larcenies from vehicles during the past week.

A 34-year-old woman reported she was accosted by a male wearing dark clothes and a bandana around 3 a.m. today. She told police she was exiting her vehicle at a residence on the 300 block of North 16th Street when she was grabbed from behind and her purse was taken from her.

She was able to run into her apartment and call police. The woman's purse was found by her vehicle with $400 in cash missing from inside, said police.

Regarding thefts from vehicles, police are reminding residents to lock their cars and trucks to avoid these crimes of opportunity.

On Tuesday, a rifle, sports equipment, loose change and other items were reported taken sometime overnight from vehicles at eight locations in residential areas, said police.

In seven of the thefts, the vehicles involved were unlocked. The eighth vehicle was locked but the keys were found in a hiding spot, according to the larceny report.

The keys were used to enter the vehicle parked on the 1200 block of Stephenson Avenue. Stolen from inside were a $900 hunting bow, two hockey sticks valued at $300, and loose change.

Two vehicles entered at separate residences on the 1600 block of 11th Avenue South each had loose change taken from inside. A small amount of change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 900 block of 8th Avenue South.

A pickup truck was entered overnight on the 1300 block of North 18th Street. Personal papers and two pool sticks, valued at $1,000, were stolen. Nearby, on the 1400 block of North 18th Street, a $600 rifle and a $100 pair of sunglasses were stolen from a vehicle, said police.

One street over on the 1400 block of North 19th Street, a $20 Leatherman tool was taken from a truck.

Also on the city's north side, a vehicle parked behind a residence on the 1000 block of Washington Avenue was reported to have been entered. Taken from inside were personal papers and a wallet valued at $40.

About a dozen thefts from vehicles were reported during the week prior to the above incidents recorded on Tuesday.

Additional thefts from vehicles were being reported to city police this morning.

The high school was reported broken into on Nov. 10 and Nov. 24. Two male juveniles are suspects in the incidents.
