Ralph Frank Bugay

BARK RIVER - Ralph Frank Bugay, 79, passed away unexpectedly while working outdoors, doing what he loved to do best, on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012.

He was lifelong resident of Bark River and was known and loved by many. He was born on July 6, 1933 in Chicago, to Charles and Mary (Lenart) Bugay.

He was drafted into the military in 1954 and served with the Army, 5th Armored Division, Company "A," 10th Armored Tank Division and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Ralph was united in marriage to the former Judith Moreau on July 18, 1959, at St. George's Catholic Church, Bark River. She preceded him in death in July 1996.

Ralph enjoyed the outdoors and was a logger all his life. He was also employed by Harnischfeger from 1961 until its closing in 1983. He was a faithful member of the First Degree of the Knights of Columbus since 2008 and was a devoted participant at OSF Perpetual Adoration for the last five years.

Ralph is survived by two sons, Michael (Jean) Bugay of Escanaba and Joseph (Jody) Bugay of Gladstone; two daughters, Michelle (Craig) Perkins of Hickory Corners, Mich., and Teresa Smith of Towson, Md.; grandchildren, Kevin and Rachel Bugay, Cassidy and Sheridan Perkins, Savannah (Ryan) Johnson, Callahan Smith and Ava Bugay; sisters, Antonette (Hank) Kochanski of Rapid River; Dolores (Ken) Hanke of Effingham, IL; brother, Richard Bugay of Escanaba; several nephews, nieces, cousins and many other loving relatives; and very special friend, Shirley Wendrick.

Ralph loved dancing, traveling, gardening and hunting. He also loved getting together with and taking pictures of his family and friends. He was a wonderful, honest, hardworking and trustworthy man and will be missed very much.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. Visitation will also be held on Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.

The burial will follow in Bark River Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the church following the burial.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
