ESCANABA - A Perronville man who sexually assaulted a minor last year was sent to prison Monday during his sentencing in Delta County Circuit Court.
William Francis Lantagne, 65, was ordered to spend one year and seven months to up to 15 years in prison on one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He pleaded no contest to the felony in August.
He was originally charged with a harsher count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct when arrested in April.
After one day in jail, he posted a $25,000 bond and was released from police custody.
According to the police investigation, Lantagne initiated and had sexual contact with a minor female on Dec. 29, 2011, in Wells Township.
During Lantagne's sentencing Monday, his attorney, Michael Manning, spoke on behalf of his client saying he was sorry. Manning said the case was a difficult one for everyone involved.
In addition to the prison sentencing, Judge Stephen Davis ordered Lantagne pay $198 in fines and costs. He was given credit for the one day he served in jail.
