FORD RIVER - Raymond Herbst and the former Dollie Mueller exchanged wedding vows 40 years ago on Sept. 16, 1972, in Waukeyaw, Ill.

Eighty-five close friends joined with the couple as they celebrated their anniversary with a renewing of their vows during an outdoor reception, with music, in the backyard of Dollie's mother's home in Long Grove, Ill., with a gazebo and creek as the backdrop.

Raymond retired as a superintendent after 48 years in construction in 1999. He also worked large construction jobs in the Chicago area. His hobbies include gardening, fishing, and hunting. He's a member of the Lions Club, various sports clubs, as well as St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hyde.

Dollie operated her own cleaning business for 28 years and is now working as a cashier at Shopko. She enjoys walking, antiquing, spending time with their children, and visiting Door County and Mexico in the winter.

After the couple retired, they returned to the local area, where Ray built a home on Ford River.

The Herbst's are the parents of three children: Tammy (Mike) Brady and Brandy (Phil) Portwich, all of Genoa City, Wis., and Christal and John Parkman of Lake Villa, Ill. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
