ESCANABA - David and Anne Schaaf celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 14 with a Mass service at St. Charles Borromeo in Detroit.
David Schaaf and the former Anne Murphy were united in holy matrimony 50 years ago on July 14, 1962, at St. Charles Borromeo in Detroit.
Standing in for the groom were: best man, Jim Schaaf, brother of the groom; groomsmen, Ken Schaaf, brother of the groom, and Sam Payton and Dean Lund, both friends of the groom. Attending the bride were: maid of honor, Jan Sheehan; and bridesmaids, Lucille Smilgis, Nancy Thomas, and Judy Spurgin, all friends of the bride.

David was employed with National Bank of Detroit, 1st National Bank, and Bay de Noc Community College. He is a member of St. Patrick/St. Joseph Church, Boy Scouts, Optimists, Serra Club, Rotary Club, and Community Foundation.
Anne is an art teacher and an artist. She is a member of the East Ludington Gallery, Girl Scouts, AAUW. She enjoys square dancing in her spare time.
The Schaafs are the parents of seven children: Anne-Marie (Bill Grisham) Schaaf of Los Angeles, Calif.; Elizabeth "Libby" Schaaf of Grand Canyon, Ariz.; Carolyn (Kevin) Konig of Castleton, N.Y.; Nick (Jennifer) Schaaf of San Antonio, Texas; Kevin (Phuong Nguyen) Schaaf of Hawthorne, Calif.; Shirley (Nega Alemayehu) Schaaf of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Tim Schaaf of Portland, Ore.
The couple also has 15 grandchildren.
