Filling the gun mayhem vacuum

March 7, 2013

FLINT — They say that nature abhors a vacuum. Where one exists, there’s always something there to fill it. And so it is with gun slaughters....

Heller, do you honestly believe that there are not some teachers who have in their purse, or briefcase a firearm right now as I type? Better to ensure proper training and know who has them. These laws make criminals out of regular well intentioned people. Sounds to me like you've been hiding behind to many skirts for to long. The only good thing about you is that you are now in Flint, which really shows questionable judgement.

Andy Heller is a misguided fool some of our local (UP) schools have Sheriff Deputy's in them , I suppose that's a bad thing for him ,Kid's interact with them, and find out they're regular people .the next step is arming a teacher if they are the type who wants to do some training . why not. we protect the President, our representatives, banks & money and valuables with guns! (a very shot list)and even the police protect us with guns ,if they possibly get there in time? as they can't cover all the bases at one time . but not the children? let's protect them with a "No Gun's Allowed " signs or a teddy bear just as effective.

Give me a break! This guy has bought the anti-gun rhetoric B.S. hook line and sinker. ALL facts show that gun control laws don't prevent or decrease violent crime, mass murders, etc. etc. ad nauseum, period. They never have.

The primary outcome of more background checks is to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to get guns. Your average criminal, or mentally unstable individual, isn't going to worry about background checks, assault weapon bans, or whether or not the size of ammo clip they need is legal. Whatever they need, they can steal or buy on the street from some gang thug who doesn't do background checks. Enhanced background checks would not have prevented Sandy Hook. A mentally unstable young man STOLE guns from his mom, and from all I have seen, she purchased her guns legally and would have had no problem with any background check. If she hadn't had the type of weapon he wanted he would have stolen it elsewhere. I do not know what the solution to gun violence is, but I know that making it more difficult for law-abiding folks to own guns is NOT the answer.

Andrew Heller grew up in the U.P.? IT DOESN'T SHOW. He has clearly forgotten his roots and gone to the radical side of the world. There is a reason he has moved away from this area, and should not be featured as a local columnist.

You can even look on TV on shows like the "1st 48" and just about any show on ID(inestiation Discovery) that we NEED protection in this country or realy anywhere. Its ignorant in a world of predators(the human kind) that we will always be OK when going out into the world, think of how you would feel if you and your family were attacked by a few people with weapons, would you really not feel better with some protection on your side??? Anit gun people act like they are the only ones against gun crime!?? are you kidding me!?? every american wether he/she owns a gun or not is against gun crime. America is turning into South Africa or Nazi Germany, and the one agenda the government has is to disarm the american citizen and fool everybody else into believing that guns are evil and its actually working(makes me sick!!) UGHHH just readthe CONSTITUTION and if you dont love it LEAVE!!!!! imagine a USA where only the Police and government had guns!!! Then we would have no say on anythi

Im not member of the NRA, but i am a member of the USA and a firm believer in our rights to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. With that being said, theyre already laws against MURDER!!! If some idiot decides to go awol, do u really think hes gonna care about any new gun laws or any laws!!??? like i said theres already a crime against murder, and that should be the ruling factor but like i said a law doesnt mean anything to someone who doesnt follow them. Why not harsher penalties for the lowlifes that commit these crimes? Too many times in this country people kill others and only get a slap on the wrists(THIS SHOULD BE STOPPED). A gun has never kiled a person on its own, theres always someone behind the trigger. Mexico has a total gun ban for all citizens meaning NOBODY besides the police and theyre crooked government are allowed to have guns and yet there was over 50,000 murders there last year.. Anti gun IDIOTS, I CANT STAND THEM!!!!!!

Heller, consider this.

If we keep guns as far away from schools as possible, those who wish commit mass murders in schools will have added time to carry out such terrible acts.

Do you beleive that a gun used by a responsible, law abiding citizen might have averted tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary? Maybe a Teacher or Custodian had their gun with them that day and shot or somehow stopped Adam Lanza after only a few deaths, or maybe none?

Nope, lets make sure no help can get there by banning guns in schools and maybe increasing the radius to 5 miles.

Properly trained adults can stop crime and only a fool would think a person willing to murder is somehow willing to follow a law to prevent that murder.
