Please, give blood

It might be hard to imagine, coronavirus dominating news coverage as it is, but COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, is not the only medical emergency our hospitals are dealing with right now.

And some of those emergencies require blood.

The virus is not known to spread through blood transfusions.

And, with the proper protocols in place, blood drives can still be safely held.

Yet fears over the virus and responsible response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmerís ìsocial distancingî mandates have kept many would-be blood donors at home and forced the cancellation of many blood drives.

Some are still being scheduled, and we would urge anyone who is able to keep an eye out for one in which they can participate. The need is still there, and you can meet that need safely.

Visit versiti.org or redcrossblood.org or use the American Red Cross Blood Donor App to find a scheduled blood drive near you. Individuals can donate blood every eight weeks.
