Cynthia (Cindy) Anne (Safford) Brock

RAPID RIVER — Cynthia (Cindy) Anne (Safford) Brock, 74, was born on September 18, 1948, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Thomas and Georgianna Safford and died peacefully at Bellin Hospital on September 21, 2022, with her husband by her side. She lived her life knowing, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”(John 3:16)

Cindy, the oldest of seven children, moved to Rapid River when she was in third grade and in 1966 she graduated from Rapid River High School. She continued her studies at Northern Michigan University and in 1970 she graduated with a home economics education major and English minor. In 1993 she earned her masters degree from Michigan State University. Cindy began her teaching career at Gladstone Public Schools in 1970 and in 1984 she joined the MSU Extension Service of Delta County serving as Extension home economist and later as the county extension director.

On July 18, 1970, she married Peter (Pete) Brock at the Rapid River Congregational Church. She was blessed with three daughters, Amy, Greta, and Elizabeth, 13 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Her family was the joy of her life. She was involved with the Foster Grandparent Foundation, and an active member of the United Evangelical Covenant Church of Gladstone, Michigan. She loved the Lord and the many friends she made at the churches she attended over the years.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Peter (Pete) Brock of Rapid River; daughter, Amy (Gary) Bridges of Cool, California; daughter, Greta of Boyne City, Michigan; and daughter, Elizabeth (Darryl) Hansen of Williamsburg, Virginia; 13 grandchildren, Simeon Smith of Houston, Texas; Derek Smith of San Diego, California; Braden Smith of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Jacob (Megan) Hansen of Wells, Michigan; Kyle Hansen of Great Falls, Montana; Abigail, Anna, Sarah, Thomas, Maria, Olivia, Jonathan, and Josiah Hansen of Williamsburg, Virginia; and great-granddaughter, Georgianna Hansen of Wells, Michigan, and she was anticipating the arrival of a great-grandson in November; sister Jenny Safford of Edgewood, Maryland; sister, Susan (Mike) Safford-Gaul of Chilton, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Alice (Wayne) Samuel of Davisburg, Michigan; sister-in-law, Kris Safford of Cheboygan, Michigan; brother-in-law, Ralph (Roberta) Brock of Daggett, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Thomas and Georgianna Safford; brother, Thomas II; brother and sister-in-law, Klint and Dale Safford; brother, Daniel (Duke); brother, Sim; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Aaron and Lulla Brock; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Dagmar Muma; brother-in-law, Aaron Brock; and sister-in-law, Mary Brock.

Funeral visitation will be held at the United Evangelical Covenant Church in Gladstone, Michigan on Friday, September 30 from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, at 11 a.m. conducted by Reverend Aaron Anderson. Sharing in the service will be members of Cindy’s family. The Committal Service will take place at the Rapid River Cemetery at 2 p.m.
