Richard K. Johnson

SUN CITY, Ariz. – Richard K. Johnson, 87, of Sun City, Arizona passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022.

Richard was born Nov. 10, 1934 in Marquette, Mich., the son of Kenneth and Stella (Bertucci) Johnson. He graduated from Marquette’s Graveraet High School in 1954 and then entered the Navy during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Richard was united in marriage to Phyllis Sherbinow on August 10, 1957 in Marquette, Mich.

The couple relocated to Gladstone, Mich. in 1959 to raise a family and lived there until 1977. While residing in Gladstone, Richard attended Bay de Noc Community College and then went on to Michigan Tech University. After selling the Lake Shore Apartments the family relocated to Arizona so that Richard and Phyllis could join childhood friends and enjoy the desert’s warmth. However, they always cherished and maintained lifelong friendships with their friends in Michigan too.

Richard was a carpenter, engine rebuilder, realtor and landlord over his career. He enjoyed estate sales, garage sales and auctions. He was actively engaged with his children and grandchildren and was a devoted member of St. Clements Roman Catholic Church. Richard would want everyone to know that he passed away with a garage full of good stuff. The American Pickers would be in awe.

Richard is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Sun City, Ariz.; two sons, Randy (April) Johnson of Houston, Texas and Kurt Johnson of Chandler, Ariz.; one daughter, Laura (Steve) Kaiblinger of Chandler, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brothers Jerry and Allen Johnson of Marquette, Mich.

Private services will be held in Sun City, Ariz. with assistance from Sunland Memorial Park, Mortuary & Cremation Center.
