Alice Marie (Jodocy) Mottillo

RIVERVIEW, Mich. — Alice Marie (Jodocy) Mottillo, 95, of Riverview, Mich., formerly of St. Nicholas area, died peacefully at the Henry Ford Hospice in Henry Ford Hospital, Wyandotte, Mich., on September 20.

Alice was born in St. Nicholas area, (Upper Peninsula) where she was raised on a dairy farm and milked several cows each morning before she attended class in a one-room school house. She graduated from Rock High School, received a B.A. in education from Northern Michigan University and a masters in education from the University of Michigan, but never lost her love of the farm or the Upper Peninsula.

Alice enjoyed teaching French, Spanish, and English at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Mich., for 38 years. After retirement, she worked as an adjunct professor of languages at Henry Ford Community College.

She also served as a Eucharistic Minister to people in Henry Ford Hospital in Wyandotte, Trenton Towers Co-op Senior Apartments in Trenton, and Rivergate Nursing Home in Riverview until she was in her early 90s.

Alice was a loving and devoted wife and aunt. She is survived by Joseph, her husband of almost 61 years; her sister, Sr. Theresa Jodocy, OSB, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Clemence [Nizette] Jodocy; her uncle, Msgr. Mathias Jodocy; as well as brothers, Fr. Mathias, Marcel, and Giles Jodocy; and sisters, Louise “Mim” Carlson and Monica Jodocy.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5803 M-35, Perkins, MI 49872. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette, Mich.

Alice was an enthusiastic supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude’s in her memory.
