Mary L. Way

ESCANABA — Mary L. Way, 67, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.

She was born on May 11, 1954 in Escanaba, Mich., daughter of Robert Allen and Fay Marie (Noel) Way. Mary attended school at Holy Name until their high school closure and went to Escanaba for her senior year, graduating in 1972. Following high school, she went to cosmetology school in Green Bay.

Mary worked for Merle Norman for several years while also employed at the casino as a black jack dealer. She was a beautician at Bishop Noa Home for many years. The residents were so important to Mary as much as she was appreciated and loved by them.

She loved sports and was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan and would attend, watch, or listen to their games whenever possible. Mary enjoyed cross country skiing, riding her bike and berry picking.

Mary’s kind heart, quick wit, and love for family, friends, and angels will forever be her legacy.

Among survivors include her sisters, Denise (Tom) Balzola of Green Bay, Chris (Pete) Ross of Gladstone, Roxane (Jim) Guindon of Escanaba and Paula (Bill) Dubord of Escanaba; significant other, Ken Buchholtz; nieces and nephews, Matthew and David Balzola, Jon and Andy Ross, Sarah Guindon Mitchell, Fay Dubord Reyes and Bob Dubord; many friends, including Marla Pryal; and special relatives and residents of Bishop Noa Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

A memorial mass will take place on Wednesday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends beginning at noon at church until the time of the mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mary’s family and a memorial will be established at a later date.

The family respectfully requests that Covid restrictions be followed at the church.
