Marlaine “Mar” Y. Poquette
ESCANABA – Marlaine “Mar” Y. Poquette, age 60, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday evening, February 18, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was born on March 2, 1960 in Norway, Mich., the daughter of Donald Nelson and Janice Thennis. Mar was raised and attended school in Norway where she was a 1978 graduate of Norway High School. She lived and worked in the Kingsford area before relocating to Escanaba in 1985. Mar began her over 25-year career with Walmart in Escanaba, most recently working at the service desk as a customer service representative. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her dog, George, and shopping with her mother, Janice. Mar loved the warm weather of summertime, going to the beach, and drinking coffee on her porch.
Marlaine Y. Poquette is survived by her children, Melissa (Clint) Ocain of Waterford, Wis., Jesse Poquette of Escanaba, and Jimmy Baker of Oklahoma City, Ok.; mother, Janice Thennis of Gladstone; brother, Dennis Nelson of Ham Lake, Minn.; nephew, Jeremy (Sandra) Nelson; niece, Tricia Nelson; and several great nieces and nephews.
Mar was preceded in death by her father, Donald Nelson; sister, Connie Trottier; and niece, Ciara Trottier.
Public visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, February 26, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be directed to Happy Tails Animal Rescue.
