Nancy E. Marenger

GLADSTONE — Nancy E. Marenger, age 80, of Gladstone (Flat Rock), passed away Sunday morning, January 24, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 9, 1940 in Escanaba, the daughter of Malcolm and Lorraine (Hellman) Stoneclift. Nancy was raised on the Stoneclift Dairy Farm in Danforth area and was a 1959 graduate of Escanaba High School. She went on to attend and further her education at the University of Wisconsin – Stout. The former Nancy E. Stoneclift married Duane “Dewey” P. Marenger on September 1, 1962 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 58 years of marriage and raised 4 children, Glenn, Lori, Alan, and Eugene. Nancy worked alongside with her husband and family on the Marenger family farm while also owning and operating the Flat Rock Grocery Store from 1972 until 1976. She later was employed as a real estate agent for over 25 years for both U.P. Realty and Alpine Realty. As she worked into retirement years, Nancy and Dewey purchased a home and wintered in Florida for 25 plus years, enjoying the sunshine and company of both Michigan and Florida friends. Nancy was strong in her faith as a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock where she was a CCD teacher for many years and ran the program. She also was involved with the Altar Society and was proud to have never missed weekly Mass in 58 years – whether they were home or traveling the country, she and Dewey always found a church to attend. Nancy volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul in Escanaba and was instrumental in creating and delivering the Christmas baskets each year, even when she was sick. She greatly enjoyed camping and spent the past 20 summers at the Gladstone Campground in their motorhome. Nancy loved to read and play cards and boardgames with her grandchildren. She also always looked forward to her Thursday get-togethers at Burger King with her sister and friends, sharing tons of laughs and memories. Everyone was always welcome and had a standing invitation. Most of all, Nancy loved her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they meant the world to her.

Nancy E. Marenger is survived by her husband, Duane “Dewey” Marenger of Flat Rock; children, Glenn Marenger of Cornell, Lori (Rich) Kwarciany of Escanaba, Alan (Diane) Marenger of Escanaba, and Eugene (Pam) Marenger of Gladstone; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Marenger, Kyle Marenger, Ethan Marenger, Gavin Kwarciany, Tyler Kwarciany, Justin Marenger, Jordan Marenger, Trent Marenger, Emily Marenger, and Alesha Marenger; six great-grandchildren, Melia, Vivian, Scarlet, Clayton, Fisher, Bexley, and one due February 2021; sisters, Joyce (Marv) Morin of Sarasota, Fla., Joan (Bill) Houle of Rapid River, and Betty (Cliff) Wall of De Pere, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
