Peter Joseph Petersen

ESCANABA — Peter Joseph Petersen, age 78, of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday morning, December 23, 2020 at his home. He was born on August 20, 1942 in Dixon, Ill., the son of Joseph and Aileen (Maki) Petersen. Peter was raised and attended school in Dixon, Ill., where he also graduated from high school. Following graduation, Peter enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 19, 1960 and was trained in Basic Service Sonar. Peter married the former Adele Rae Croucher on April 10, 1963. Together, the couple shared 54 years of marriage. While serving in the military, Peter and Adele resided in various locations. Their longest residency was in Riverdale, Ill., for 36 years. Peter was employed by Encyclopedia Britannica and H&R Block. He also worked for the U.S. government in the IRS Department in Chicago until his retirement. In 2005, Adele and Peter relocated to Escanaba. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Peter enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and kayaking. He liked to keep his mind going by working on sudoko puzzles, crossword puzzles, and reading the funnies. Peter also loved sitting in his front window and waving to everyone who passed by his home.

Peter Joseph Petersen is survived by sons, Joseph Petersen of Hammond, Ind., and Robert Petersen of Augusta, Georgia; daughters, Kimberly (Robert) Soden of Killeen, Texas, and Karen (Laurence) Marshall of Douglassville, Penn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Aileen Petersen; and his wife, Adele Rae Petersen.

Graveside services are being planned for the spring of 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba. The Anderson Funeral Homes are assisting the Petersen family and online remembrances can be shared at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.
