Roy A. Dahl

ESCANABA — Roy A. Dahl, 87, of Escanaba, passed away early Friday morning, October 23, 2020 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.

He was born on March 8, 1933 in Bark River, son of Adolph and Vera (Palmgren) Dahl. Roy was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Bark River High School.

Roy served in the U.S. Army from June 4, 1953 until his honorable discharge on May 3, 1955. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

On July 26, 1958, Roy married Shirley M. Derusha at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba.

Roy was employed with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, Jewel Tea, Harnischfeger Corporation, Van’s Marine and Cycle City until his retirement in May of 1995.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and spending time with his family.

Roy was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Amvets.

Among survivors include his wife, Shirley of Escanaba; son, Terry (Karen) Dahl of Gladstone; grandchildren, Bradley (Nicole) Dahl of Escanaba, Tiffany Dahl of Green Bay and Tyler Dahl of Gladstone; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Elaine Krause, Betty Olson, Cletis, Len, Harlan and Veron Dahl.

Private services will be held and burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
