Robert E. Jeffries

ESCANABA — Robert E. Jeffries, age 95, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 20, 2020 at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. He was born on August 31, 1925 in Robinson, Ill. Robert grew up and attended school near Pittsburgh, Penn., and was a 1943 graduate of McKeesport High School. Following graduation, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served his country for 26 years until his retirement in 1970. During this time, Robert served in four wars: World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and lastly, the Cold War. He was very proud of his military history and to have served for the United States. Robert Jeffries married the former JoAnn C. Platts on June 9, 1950 in Pittsburgh, Penn., and she preceded him in death on May 7, 2002. Together, the couple shared 51 years of marriage and raised four sons. After Robert’s honorable discharge from the military, the family relocated to Escanaba in 1970 where he was able to build their retirement home. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed the simplicity of living in the Upper Peninsula.

Robert E. Jeffries is survived by sons, Robert (Valarie) Jeffries, Jr. of Little Falls, Minn., and Glenn (Terri) Jeffries of Rice Lake, Wis.; nine grandchildren; sister, Mary Kufner of Pittsburgh, Penn.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Jeffries, and Lee Jeffries; two brothers, Bill, and Jack; and one sister, JoAnne.

A private family visitation was held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with military honors conducted by the Delta County Veterans Council. Burial took place in the West Ford River Cemetery.
