Paul E. Bolm

ESCANABA — Paul E. Bolm, age 85, of Escanaba, passed away Monday morning, October 26, 2020 at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. He was born on July 18, 1935 in Escanaba, the son of Oscar and Edna (Anderson) Bolm. Paul grew up in Escanaba and also Bark River, and was a 1956 graduate of Escanaba High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Georgia until he was honorably discharged. In 1958, Paul moved back to Escanaba and sailed on the Great Lakes while working on an ore carrier. He then was employed for Mead Paper Company for 37 years as a machine operator on the #4 paper machine until his retirement. Paul married the former Nancy Martinson on December 27, 1957 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2006. Together, the couple shared nearly 49 years of marriage and raised 4 children, Kim, Jill, Jeff, and Kerri. Paul was a long-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also was a member of the Mead 25 Year Club, the Carving Club, and the Good Sam Club. Paul enjoyed cutting his grass at his house – one could often find him riding his lawn mower working on a section each day. He also enjoyed going camping and working in his woodshop. In 1981, Paul used his talents to make wooden plaques and ornaments from the National Christmas Tree stump that was harvested in the Upper Peninsula. Paul was a huge high school hockey fan and rarely missed attending a game or watching the Escanaba Eskymos practice. He will be greatly missed by all.

Paul is survived by his children, Kim (Mike) Kallio of Gladstone, Jill Bolm of Escanaba, Jeff (Jane) Bolm of Manistique, Mich., and Kerri (Kevin) Wise of Grafton, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Brian, David, Tyler, Travis, Karsen, Ethan, and Aaron; brother, Russ (Mary) Bolm of Kewaunee, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Mott.

Private family visitation and funeral services will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba with Rev. Terry Frankenstein officiating. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
