Marie L. Neubauer

ESCANABA — Marie L. Neubauer, 91, of Pine Ridge, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2020.

Daughter of Harold and Leona (Kaiser) DeLoughary, Marie was born on May 12, 1929, raised in Eustis, and graduated from Harris High School.

On July 8, 1950 Marie married Leo Neubauer at Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer. After various moves between Chicago and Escanaba, they settled in Chemical Plant Location where they raised their nine children.

Marie worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital and later as a cook at Christian Park, St. Thomas School, and Bay College.

She loved knitting, telling jokes and stories, and singing, especially singing Irish, French, and Polish lullabies to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marie was a member of St Joe’s/St. Pat’s Church, DAV Auxiliary (Chaplain), Blue Army, past president of the Wells Lioness, Third Order of St. Francis (since 1960), and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Housing Commission during her 18 years at Harbor Tower.

Survivors include her daughters, Chris (Larry) Stan of Sault Ste. Marie, Rose (Joe) Potvin of Bark River, Sue (Tom) Brown, Jo (Dick Larsen) Neubauer all of Escanaba, Florence Deibert of Temple, Texas, and Cathy (Tom Light) Smith of Pacific Grove, Calif.; son, Dick (Sharon) Neubauer of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Michael (Gail) Kroll, Meghan (Zac Johnson) Stan, Marcel (Anne Chouinard) Potvin, Jenelle (Steve Martelli) Potvin, Lynette (Evan Kane) Potvin, Nick (Emily Schroer) Brown, Emily (Enrique) Towry, and Leona (Logan Hunt) Brown, Kelli Tourangeau, Jaimee (Andrea) Tourangeau, Brian (Jenny) Tourangeau, Becky (Zach) Ericksen, Corey (Shannon) and Art Tourangeau, Ross (Trang) Neubauer, Ryan Neubauer, Robin (Jason) Leiburn, Athena (Matt) Phillips, Malinda (Matt) Moreland, Travis (Emily) Deibert, Steve (KeriAnne) and Jeff (Rochelle) Smith. Marie is also survived by siblings Katie Bower, Terry (Rosemary) DeLoughary, and Elorine (Ray) Mott, 38 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo; sons, Harv and Dan Neubauer; son-in-law Clay Deibert; and sisters Patricia Szczygiel and Beatrice Feldhusen.
