Frank A. Sliva

ESCANABA – Frank A. Sliva, 73, passed away unexpectantly on October 25, 2020, at Mackinac Straits Health System.

He was born in Escanaba on December 24, 1946, the son of Frank and Victoria (Zawacki) Sliva. Frank was raised in Escanaba. In 1965 he graduated from Escanaba High School and then went on to attend Bay de Noc Community College and several other technical schools.

Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 11, 1966 and served until March 5, 1969. While in the service he was awarded the USMC Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was previously employed with Bosk and retired from Mead Paper in 2003 as E&I supervisor of the number 4 machine. In addition, Frank was a past union president for IBW 979.

Frank had many interests, from NASCAR, hockey, baseball, bowling, building houses, helping others and being an outdoorsman. His most enjoyment came from watching his grandchildren playing sports and their other activities.

Memberships included the Wells Lion Club, Cornell Fire Department, past president and coach of EAJHA (instrumental in starting indoor rinks especially the Wells Sports Complex), and past president/coach of the Escanaba Little league.

Survivors include his children, Frank (Tracey) Sliva of Escanaba, Scott (Anne Marie) of Zeeland, Mich., Jaime (Ben) Nieman of Bay City, Mich., Stepson, Ryan (Jeni) Dahl of Wells; beloved grandchildren: Brendan (Anika), Stephen (Brittany), Madison (Jon), Brianna, Noah, Brooke, Kennedy, Ethan, Dallas, and Lucas; partner, Anita Couillard of Escanaba; Anita’s children: Kevin (Alisha) Rudden of Ishpeming, Stephanie (Ben) Czappa, Brad Rudden all of Escanaba, and Rachelle DeVos of South Lyon, Mich.; Anita’s grandchildren: Kayla, Zach, Whitney, Lilly, Zeb, Marcus, Audrey, Ruth and Charlie Jo; siblings, Frances Wylie of Texas, Estelle Henderson of Escanaba, and Agnes Lavigne of OH; sister-in-,law, Celeste Sliva of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen; and brother Walter Sliva.

Visitation will be held on Sunday November 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Homes in Escanaba. Services will follow at 5 p.m. with Bishop Rayford Ray officiating. On Monday, November 2nd at 11 a.m. military rights will take place at Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
