Ronald G. Pepin

GLADSTONE — Ronald G. Pepin, 86, of Gladstone, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 29, 2020 in Gladstone surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 29, 1934 in Escanaba and was the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (DuBord) Pepin. Ronald was raised in Escanaba and was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph High School. After graduation, he started his working career at the Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Escanaba. A few years later, Ronald enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, serving in both Korea and Japan. Upon being honorably discharged in 1956, Ronald went back to work for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company where he worked for almost 40 years until his retirement in 1991. Ronald Pepin married the former Loretta Krause on June 2, 1956 at Saint Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 64 years of marriage and raised four children: Michael, Kevin, Lynn, and Heather. Following retirement, Ronald and Loretta enjoyed wintering in New Port Richey, Fla., for over 20 years. He also found great joy in all that the outdoors had to offer, especially camping, walking, hunting, and fishing. Ronald loved his family deeply as family always came first. He was a long-time member of All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone but also loved attending services with his wife at Salem Lutheran Church in Escanaba.

Ronald G. Pepin is survived by his wife, Loretta Pepin of Gladstone; sons, Michael (Angela) Pepin of Pine Springs, Minn., and Kevin (Veronica) Pepin of Crivitz, Wis.; daughters, Lynn (James) Matta of Gladstone, and Heather Murtha of Gladstone; grandchildren, Tyler Frost, Michelle Lenoch, Mika Pepin, Takoda Pepin, Tehya Pepin, Tyler Pepin, Rhyan Murtha, Rhys Pepin, and Madyson Murtha; step-grandson James Matta, several great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Ethel) Pepin of Portage, Wis., and Roger (Bonnie) Pepin of Gladstone; brother-in-law, Marvin Krause of Escanaba, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Pedersen.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Father James Ziminski officiating. Burial will take place in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. In lieu of flowers, the family is setting up a scholarship fund at Bay College.
