Gerald F. Searle

ESCANABA — Gerald F. Searle, 88, of Escanaba passed on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020 at Rennes Health and Rehab East in Peshtigo, Wis.

He was born on Oct. 30, 1931 in Detroit, Mich., son of Elmer and Effie (Fraser) Searle. Gerald was raised and attended school in Wayne, Mich. He graduated in 1949 and joined the United States Army.

Gerald served with the U.S. Army from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He received the Red Badge and a Korean Service Medal with 4 Battle Stars.

In 1968 Gerald moved to the Escanaba area. He was the owner/operator of Jerry’s Barber Shop and later on the Lion’s Den until his retirement in 2014.

On Jan. 24, 1987, Gerald married Susan Frazer in Hollywood, Calif.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Delta County Veteran’s Council.

He was known to be an avid fisherman who loved to fish in walleye tournaments.

Gerald liked hunting, cooking, and woodworking. He was very artistic and it showed in the bowls he made.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; ­children, Steve (Beth) Searle of Minneapolis, Minn., Scott (Sally) Searle of Gwinn, Mich., and Gerald Searle of Ashland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Andrew, Sara, ­Scottie, Jordan and Brianna Searle; and four great-grandchildren, Brenden, Logen, Jesalyn, and Dorothy Searle.

In addition to his ­parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Maddison; sister, Jane; and brother, Jay.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. with Father Emmett Norden officiating with ­military rights to follow.
