Belle E. Hansen

WILSON — Belle E. Hansen, 82, of Wilson, passed away Friday July 10, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born March 30, 1938 in Indianola, Ill., the eldest daughter of Clarence and Hilda Anderson of Bark River where she was raised and graduated from Bark River High School in 1956. She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing on the campus of what is now Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI.

On May 10, 1958, Belle married Donald “Copie” Hansen (of Wilson) in Lansing, Mich., where she was completing nurses training. They then moved back to the U.P. to be closer to family. Donald’s sister, Luella Dahlberg, was best friends with Belle since their early school days. For 11 years she co-owned and co-operated Don’s Mobil gas station, car wash, and cabins in Powers alongside her husband Don.

Belle was a nurse at St. Francis Hospital for many years before she helped Dr. Lionel Kuran set up his ENT practice in Escanaba and later in Menominee and Marinette. In 1992, she joined the nursing staff at Northern Menominee Health Center and served as a board member for the Upper Peninsula Association of Rural Health Services after her retirement.

She was confirmed and a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Powers. Belle enjoyed reading novels and doing word search puzzles in her spare time.

Belle is survived by her four daughters, Janice (German) Dacanay of Bremerton, Wash.., Mary (John) Grzyb of Bark River, Mich. Donna Hansen (Paul Radtke) of Crivitz, Wis., and Rachel (James) Adkins of Kansas City, MO; and grandchildren, Stephanie Grzyb of Escanaba, Mich., Michael Bauer of Kansas City, MO, Bradley Grzyb of Carney, Mich., Jeremy Dacanay of Portland Ore., Makena Adkins, Calissa Adkins and Jadon Adkins of Kansas City, MO.; great-grandchildren, Braylen Kleikamp, Madalin Kleikamp, Colten Quaghebeur, Hunter Bauer, Jake Grzyb, and Andreas Dacanay; brothers Daniel Anderson and Timothy Anderson of Salina, Kan., and sister Elga (Richard) Seibert of Garden, MI; and several wonderful nephews, nieces and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Belle was preceded in death by her husband Donald Hansen, sister-in-law Doris Brukardt, brothers-in-law Allan Brukardt and Barry Dahlberg.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT. (10 a.m. CDT). The prayers will follow at 1 p.m. EDT (12 p.m. CDT) with Pastor Ronald Zindler officiating. To comply with current regulations, please wear a mask and enter the funeral home using the front (south) door and exit using parking lot (east) door.

Burial services will be in following at Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
