Scott Gerald Vallier

GLADSTONE — Scott Gerald Vallier, age 58, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully at his home with family on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

Scott was born on June 18, 1961 in Escanaba, the son of Gerald and Maxine (Kalishek) Vallier.

Scott graduated from Gladstone High School in 1979, where he played football and wrestled. He began a family tradition of state wrestling champions with his brother-in-law, nephew and two sons following in his footsteps. He continued this tradition as a coach for both youth and high school wrestling in Gladstone for over 35 years, where he coached multiple state champions. “Coach Scott’s” contribution to Gladstone wrestling was honored in 2014 when the wrestling practice room was dedicated to him so he can continue to watch over future generations of champions.

On June 27, 1981, he was married to the love of his life, Amy, at St. Thomas Church. They went on to have two sons Tim and Joel who both wrestled in college and continued his legacy of helping coach wrestling in Gladstone.

He worked as a construction foreman where he oversaw the revitalization of numerous landmark buildings throughout the U.P. and Wisconsin and spent the later portion of his working life as a trucker and delivery driver where he transported essential goods such as medications and candy throughout the state. His work ethic and dependability were known widely and his deliveries were always made with a kind word and smile.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at deer camp with his grandchildren and vacationing at Cedar Lake Lodge for his annual fishing trip. He enjoyed woodworking and loved creating beautiful pieces for family and friends and he frequently invented various little gadgets to make life easier.

He has left a lasting legacy on the lives and hearts of countless others and will be loved and fondly remembered.

In addition to his parents, Scott is survived by wife, Amy (Villeneuve) Vallier, of Gladstone; two sons, Tim (Amber) Vallier, of Flat Rock, and Joel Vallier, of Ann Arbor; one brother, Cliff (Deborah) Vallier, of Shelby Township; one sister, Allison (Barry Gokee) Vallier, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; two grandsons, Liam and Graysen; father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Sharon Villeneuve; sister-in-law, Brenda (Ray) King; brother-in-law, Joel (Marci) Villeneuve; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who affectionately knew him as “Favorite Uncle Scott.”

Scott is preceded in death by one brother, Paul Vallier.
