Edwin Eugene Bergquist

ESCANABA — Edwin Eugene Bergquist, 97, of Escanaba, passed away on Wednesday morning, June 17, 2020, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

He was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Stephenson, Mich., to Henry and Ellen (Johnson) Bergquist.

Edwin grew up on the family farm in Stephenson and graduated from Stephenson High School, Class of 1941.

After graduation he went to work in Bark River as a farm hand.

Edwin married the former Dorothy Marie Erickson on April 28, 1944, in Escanaba, Mich. They were married by Rev. Karl J. Hammer of the Central Methodist Church.

In 1945 they moved to Escanaba where he worked for Apple River Feeds for a time and later at Delta Hardware. In 1952, Edwin started working for the city of Escanaba as a lineman and later became a foreman. He retired as assistant superintendent of the Escanaba Electric Department in 1985 after many years of service to the city.

Survivors include his children, Lawrence (Brenda) of Arkansas, Dale (Kathy) of Escanaba, Mich., Sherry (Charles) Johnson, and Bonnie (Curt) Nyquist all of Gladstone, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Pearsall, Joan Beery, and Shirley Erickson. He was a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Edwin was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Solander; brothers, Harold, Grant, Stanley, Glenn Bergquist, and great-granddaughter Angel Nyquist.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St. Escanaba. Services will be at the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. with Ed’s niece Pastor Christine Bergquist officiating. To comply with the current regulations, please enter the funeral home using the north entrance on 2nd Avenue and exit using the east (front) door of the building. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.
