Theresa Nault

BARK RIVER — Theresa Nault, 89, of Bark River, passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Jan. 27, 2020, after losing her battle with corticobasal degeneration.

Born on Feb. 19, 1930, Theresa was a lifelong resident of Bark River. She was the daughter of Alphonse and Leah (Boucher) Lessard. She married Ellsworth “Coonie” Nault on June 10, 1950, enjoying 56 years of marriage until Coonie’s death in 2006.

Theresa began working for Dr. Nathan Frenn while still in high school, taking care of the Frenn children. Later, she became the receptionist in his medical office. Henry Boyle, undertaker and post master in Bark River at the time, asked Theresa to help out at his funeral home which subsequently led to her job as postal clerk. She retired from the Postal Department after 40 years serving in Bark River, Escanaba and Iron Mountain. Theresa also took great pride in her work as secretary at St. George’s Church and was a devout and active member for many years.

Holidays were her favorite time of year, particularly Christmas. Theresa and Coonie would begin at Thanksgiving, setting up outdoor decorations and displays. Theresa took pleasure in seeing cars stop on the road to admire their handiwork. Fourth of July was also fun around the Nault household making floats for various businesses around town.

Through the years, Theresa enjoyed taking ceramic classes from various instructors where, not only keepsakes but valuable friendships were molded. Theresa always loved crafts, particularly crochet, making baby afghans, Christmas ornaments and even an evening dress. In later years, her passion turned to counted cross stitch which resulted in many beautiful works of art.

She also enjoyed playing Bridge and 500 sharing fun times with good friends.

Until her disease set in, friends and neighbors could always count on Theresa to lend a helping hand, be it rides to appointments or simply picking up the mail.

Theresa loved to travel with her family, sometimes even taking her beloved dog, Suzzette, along. Whether traveling around this country or abroad, each trip holds special memories and always evokes a “remember when?”

Theresa is survived by her two daughters, Christine (Donald) Kenney of St. Louis, Missouri, and Mary Lee (Ted) Drozd of Lansing, Mich. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Paul (Christine) Kenney of St. Louis, Missouri, and Erin (Rob) Granger of Waukesha, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Clare and Matt Kenney and Charlie and Liam Granger; brother-in-law, Tony Otradovec; sister-in-law, Marianne Skrobiak; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gunnisonville Meadows, Dr. Raymond Hansen and Careline Hospice Care for their love and care.

Visitation will be held at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River on Wednesday, Feb. 5, beginning at 4 p.m. and will conclude with parish prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation will also take place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark McQuesten officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Vincent de Paul Society.
