Joyce M. Bushey

ESCANABA — Joyce M. Bushey, 90, of Escanaba, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 2, 1929, in Northland, daughter of Leonard and Anna (Bertels) Fillis. At the age of 16, Joyce’s family moved to Escanaba. She graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1946.

On July 5, 1947, Joyce married the love of her life, Joseph Bushey, at St. Joseph’s Church in Escanaba. Together they shared over 70 years together and raised four children.

Joyce was employed in the billing department at Escanaba Paper Company for nine years, she then left the workforce to be a housewife and help run the family business “Bushey Meats.”

Joyce loved to travel, do crossword puzzles and spending time with her family, treating them to her delicious home-cooked meals and treats. But her greatest joy was being a Grandma and “Nana” to her grandchildren.

She was a past member of the Wells Lady Lions.

Among survivors include her children, Susan Bushey, Kim Bushey, Patti (Todd) Holland and Lori (Jerry) Carter, all of Escanaba; grandchildren, David (Michelle Vandeyacht) Bushey, Bonnie Bushey, Nicole Bushey, Christopher (Brenda Grove) Bushey, Rebecca (Chris Cloud), Holly (Adam) Ryno, Matt (Tammy) Holland, Tom (Amber Klaver) Kang and Amanda (Joe) Knuth; and 13 great-grandchildren, Aurora, Desmond, Aarti, Dominic, Carter, Parker, Ava, Hunter, Madison, Emerson, Braeden, Marissa and Jax; sister, Donna Seguin; brother-in-law, Herb Lantz, and sister-in-law, Midge Bushey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Deacon Mike LeBeau officiating.

Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
