James Clarence Anderson

ESCANABA — James Clarence Anderson, 79, of Escanaba, passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at his home in Escanaba. He was born May 26, 1940, in Escanaba, Mich., and was the son of Clarence T. and Elsie M. (Touri) Anderson. Jim graduated from Escanaba High School in 1958 and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from Oct. 9, 1958, until he was honorably discharged on Oct. 4, 1960. He married the former Judith Aune on Oct. 5, 1963, at Christ the King Lutheran Church Chapel in Escanaba.

Together they shared 56 years of marriage and raised three children.

Jim was employed as a pulp mill operator, at Mead Paper Company in Escanaba from 1962 until he retired in 1997. Jim was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, served on the church council for many years as the treasurer. He enjoyed going to car shows all over the United States and was a member of the North East Wisconsin Corvair Club. Jim also enjoyed all physical activities such as walking, skiing, biking and hiking.

James Clarence Anderson is survived by wife, Judy; daughters, Kristen (Dave) DeVet of Gladstone and Lori (Chuck) Aho of Toivola, Mich.; son, Steven Anderson, of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren, Josh DeVet, Carly DeVet and Evan Ganiere-Anderson; sister, Janet (Clifford) Olsson of Gladstone and Florida; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Bero and Marilyn Garlick.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 25, at the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of James Clarence Anderson will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Escanaba with Tom Otis officiating. A luncheon will be served afterward in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
