Helen Jane Thompson

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Helen Jane Thompson, 91, formerly of Escanaba, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Ill. She was born on Feb. 26, 1928, in St. Nicholas, Mich., the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Erickson) LaChapelle. Jane was a graduate of Escanaba High School and furthered her education at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Ill. She was employed for many years as a benefits authorizer by the Social Security Administration. The former Helen Jane LaChapelle married George W. Thompson on Aug. 30, 1952, in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared many wonderful years of marriage. Jane loved her family more than anything and took pride in caring for her parents. She was a math wiz that would practice calculus at her dining room table — even during her last days. Jane loved to teach and took any opportunity she could to help others. She was a hard worker and took pride in everything she did. Jane loved all of the friends she made throughout the years.
