Gregory R. Olson
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Gregory R. Olson, age 68, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Escanaba, passed on to eternal life of Friday, Jan. 24, 2020 from complications of rheumatoid arthritis. He was born on May 15, 1951 in Escanaba, the son of Robert G. Olson and Marjorie Kesler Olson. Greg attended Escanaba Schools, graduating in 1969. While in high school, he participated in wrestling and played the French horn in the marching band. He attended Bay de Noc Community College, graduating with an associate’s degree in water technology. Greg then went on to work for the city of Tampa, Fla. in water treatment. Later, he worked in the water treatment labs of the city of Clearwater, Fla. retiring in 2006.
Gregory R. Olson is survived by his siters, Marlene Paavilainen of Escanaba and Abigail Larson of Gladstone. He is further survived by nieces, Chantel (Shawn) Curtin of Escanaba, Charla (John) Menard of Sheboygan, Wis., and Brittany (David) Deno of Escanaba; his nephew, Kalen (Kay) Larson of Shepardsville, Ky.; and his great-nieces and nephews, Zackary, Zayley, and Zebadiah Menard, and Maia Deno. Greg is also survived by his uncle, Ray (Dorothy) Olson; as well as many cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his nephew, Jared Paavilainen, and brother-in-law, Blane Larson.
This past August, Greg attended his 50th class reunion and renewed old friendships.
Private family services were held. Burial will take place in the spring of 2020 in Lakeview Cemetery. The Anderson Funeral Homes are assisting the Olson family and online condolences can be sent at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.
