Gary Allen Brown

ESCANABA — Gary Allen Brown, 70, of Escanaba, passed away late Saturday evening, Feb. 8, 2020, at Murray Country View in Gladstone following a prolonged illness.

He is survived by his sons, Robert C. (special friend, Jennifer Kilburn) Brown of Kenosha, Wis., and Ryan A. (Randi) Brown of Saginaw, Mich.; granddaughter, Amelia; brother, Dale H. (Ann) Brown of Hudsonville, Mich.; brother-in-law, Harry “Rich” Richardson of Chicago, Ill., former wife and friend, Linda (Augie) Peters, aunts, uncles, and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was born on Dec. 19, 1949, in Escanaba, son of Henry D. and Theresa J. (Frossard) Brown Carlson. He was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1968. Gary married Linda (Johnson) Peters on 25 July 1970 in Escanaba, Mich. He was an engine builder, working for Northern Motor Rebuilders for 20 years and later for Schwann’s Food Delivery for a few years. Gary married Nancy Richardson on 30 May 1999 in Bridgeview, Ill. Upon retiring in 2003, Gary moved to Florida for a period of time to enjoy the weather before returning to Escanaba.

Gary enjoyed coin collecting, woodworking, spending time with his granddaughter, and doing yard work particularly planting bushes and flowers. He was a member of Silver Winds Church. An animal lover, Gary especially loved spending time with his dogs and birds. Growing up, Gary’s sons have fond memories of him sitting in his recliner, with an ever-present cup of coffee, “reading” the newspaper as he napped.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Nancy.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, 19 February 2020 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba, with the funeral service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Chase Brown, Gary’s nephew, officiating. A luncheon will follow in the funeral home lounge.

Burial will take place later in the year at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schaffer.
