Marilyn L. Stacey

ESCANABA — Marilyn L. Stacey, 91, of Escanaba, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Marilyn was born in Escanaba on June 16, 1928, daughter of Edward and Lucille (Lahay) Harkins. She was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School, attended the University of Denver, and received her bachelor’s degree from Loretto Heights College in 1952.

On June 19, 1954, Marilyn married Daniel Stacey at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba. Together they raised six children and celebrated 64 years of marriage. Dan preceded her in death on May 1, 2019.

Marilyn taught elementary school and art classes in Menominee, Gladstone and Stephenson from 1952-1957. Once she started raising her family, she decided to be a stay-at-home mom, and would substitute teach periodically.

Marilyn had a lifelong interest in drawing, painting and reading, and was a prolific artist who created hundreds of watercolors, oil paintings and drawings.

She was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Parish, Bonifas Art Center, Third Order of St. Francis and was a charter member of The East Ludington Gallery.

Among survivors are her children, Madelyn Stacey of Carlsbad, Calif., Carolyn Stacey of Escanaba, David (Cody) Stacey of Arcata, Calif., John (Roberta) Stacey of Avon, Conn., Tom (Tracy) Stacey of San Diego, Calif.; sister, Merrie Bea (Joe) Stankowicz of Escanaba; and seven grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother, James; her parents, her son, Michael; and husband, Dan.

Visitation will be held at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba, on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Tim Ferguson officiating.
