Jacob ‘Jack’ N. Lund

ROCK — Jacob “Jack” N. Lund, 81, of Rock, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at his home in Rock. He was born on Jan. 30, 1938, in Negaunee, Mich., the son of Emil and Helen (Mattila) Lund. Jack was raised in Rock and was a 1956 graduate of Rock High School. On Sept. 21, 1956, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 20, 1958. After returning from service, he worked at Fisher Body Plant in Flint, Mich. In 1974, he moved back to his hometown of Rock and was employed as a turbine operator for Great Lakes Gas Transmission until his retirement in 1996. Jack married the former Patricia DuFour in 1960. In 1985, he married the former Dolores Manty in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1999. Jack greatly enjoyed the outdoors and nature – especially snowmobiling, four-wheeling, feeding the deer, walking, and snowshoeing.

Jacob N. Lund is survived by sons, James (Monica) Lund of Rock, and David (Sheila) Lund of Rapid River; daughter, Laurie (Tom) LaCosse of Rapid River; stepchildren, Dawn (Lisa) Clavell of Escanaba, Laura (Joe) Kras of Crown Point, Ind., and Robert (Teri) Manty of Powers; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Lampinen of Rock, and Joyce (Orval) Lancour of Idaho; brother, Jim (Ruth) Lund of Rock; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Helen Lund; his first wife, Patricia DuFour; his second wife, Dolores Manty; his daughter, Susan Lund; and one sister, Emily Rautiola.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:45 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military honors will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Jacob will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Rell Spickerman officiating. A luncheon will be held at the conclusion of the services at the Gladstone American Legion.
