Charlene ‘Char’ M. Curran

ESCANABA — Charlene M. “Char” Curran, 87, of Escanaba, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, at Pinecrest Medical Facility in Powers.

Char was born in Manistique, Mich.,, on October 17, 1932, daughter of Henry and Stella (Gauthier) Gardner. She was raised in Manistique and graduated from Manistique High School.

On Feb. 19, 1955, Char married Larry Curran in Manistique. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage and raised 4 children.

Char worked for her parents at the Gardner hotel and restaurant for years before becoming a secretary for Kenosha-American Motor Co. For 10 years she was an aide at the ISD in Escanaba. The job she enjoyed most was being a homemaker. She was known far and wide for her delicious rolls and rye bread.

She enjoyed many summers camping with family and friends and upon retirement spent 13 years wintering in Arizona.

She was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish where she was active in organizing and calling on people for funeral choir. She was involved in PTO at school for many years while her children were in school and assisted in cooking hot meals at St Joseph, St Patrick and Holy Name Schools.

Among survivors are her husband, Larry; children, Colleen Curran of Lansing, Mich., Kelly (Brian) Wright of Shelby, Mich., Kevin Curran of Perkins and Shawn (Linda) Curran of Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Shannon Curran, Sean (Tamara) Curran, Shaylee Curran, Josh (Sarah) Wright, Kelsey Wright, Hannah Wright, Chris (Morgan) Curran and Jenny (Nicholas) Martzahl; great-grandchildren, Keagan (Sasha) Curran, Andi Martzahl and Alex Martzahl; sister-in-law, Patricia Hough; and cousin, Paul Gauthier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Laurie Ann Curran; sister-in-law, Kay Jackson; brothers-in-law, Joe Jackson and Lauritz Hough.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. A lunch will follow in the church hall.

Burial will take place in the spring in Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.
