William E. Sheedlo

ESCANABA — William E. Sheedlo, 92, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. He was born on July 14, 1927, in Escanaba, the son of John and Signe (Buckland) Sheedlo. Bill was raised in Escanaba and attended Escanaba High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served his country as a Seabee in Guam until he was honorably discharged. William married the former Marilyn Eis on Nov. 16, 1946, in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2010. Together, the couple shared 63 years of marriage and raised five children. Bill worked for the City of Escanaba at the gas plant for a few years until he was employed by Harnischfeger Corporation as a machinist until his retirement in 1983. He then worked at Bridgewood in its maintenance department for several years. Bill enjoyed bowling in his younger years, taught himself how to play the guitar, and found joy in woodworking — he was so talented he built his own house. In his early years, Bill was active at Calvary Baptist Church and was instrumental in building the church. He was an animal lover, especially for his two dogs, where he spent every day for 25 years at a specific bench in Ludington Park on Aronson Island with Benji and Bailey.

William E. Sheedlo is survived by two sons, Bill (Bonnie) Sheedlo of Racine, Wis., and Jeff (Joyce) Sheedlo of Escanaba; three daughters, Diane (William) Wickham of Rapid River, Barbara (Daniel) Stiglitz of Escanaba, and Janis (Dave) Vallier of Schaffer, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine (John) Jaeger of Escanaba, and Patricia Nelson of Green Bay, Wis.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
