Carol J. Louis

MENOMINEE Mich. — Carol J. Louis, 79, of Menominee, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area in Marinette, Wis. The former Carol Rabitoy was born on April 5, 1940, in Gladstone to the late Francis and Eva (Blair) Rabitoy. Carol graduated from Escanaba Holy Name High School with the class of 1958. She would then attend Bay De Noc College and receive her LPN in 1959. On Feb. 27, 1960 Carol married her true love Wayne Louis in Gladstone. Wayne preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2018.

Carol started her nursing career at the Menominee Hospital and later went to Marinette General Hospital. In the ’70s she took a break from nursing for a few years and became a real estate agent licensed both in Michigan and Wisconsin for State Wide Real Estate. She returned to nursing in the early ’80s, and worked at various nursing homes in the area finally finishing her career at Larson’s Nursing Home, now the Atrium Post-Acute Care of Menominee. Carol’s interests in her younger years were her family, camping, boating, swimming and cooking and baking. She loved writing poems and greeting card messages. In her later years, Carol volunteered with the American Red Cross of Menominee and assisted with blood drives etc. She also volunteered with the Bay Area Medical Center Auxiliary. Carol spent countless hours researching and assisting people with helping them muddle through the paperwork to receive lower or free prescriptions. She researched the pharmaceutical companies to see which companies offered lower prices to low income customers or if there were any generic options. Carol also collected used hearing aids to distribute to people in need. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Carol is survived by her four children, Terri Sue (Rick) Krause of Eau Claire, Wis., Kellie (Dale) Hartman of Marinette, Wis., Mike (Becky) of Menominee, Mich. and Gary (Sherri) of Marinette, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Trevor Ayerst) Krause, Nichole (Dan) Grossman, Travis (Shannon) Hartman, Jason Hartman, Annie (Allyn) Lutz, Michaela (Brent Thoune) Louis, Jordan (Gina) Louis, Alyssa (Brandon Han) Louis and Paige (Ford Schremmer) Louis; four great-grandchildren, Ariella, Liam, Deklan and Grayson with one more great-grandson on the way; sisters, Roberta Hartman and Sister Rita Mae Rabitoy; brother, Richard (Shirley) Rabitoy; nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Rabitoy Jr., and her brother-in-law, Thomas Hartman.

Family will receive friends at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee on Saturday Nov. 2, after 10 a.m. CST until time of funeral service at noon CST with Pastor Mark Laatsch officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Anderson Kell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family would like to thank the staff at Atrium Post Acute Care of Menominee and Unity Hospice for the excellent care given to their mother.
