SUNDELL, Mich. — Marion Gale Lindstrom, 89, formerly of Sundell, entered eternal life Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Born Dec. 12, 1929, in Sands, the daughter of Muriel (Grimes) Yelle, Marion was raised by her paternal grandparents, Ernest and Caroline Yelle, in Sands. She graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1949. Marion joined the U.S. Air Force in September 1952 and was stationed in Texas, Virginia, South Dakota, and Illinois throughout the years. Following her honorable discharge in 1955 with the rank of staff sergeant, Marion was employed for a time with Ralston Purina in Illinois before returning to Michigan.

On Feb. 25, 1961, Marion was united in marriage to Edward A. Lindstrom at St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey. In 1966 the couple relocated to Sundell where they operated a farm. Marion was the last postmaster for the Sundell Post Office, serving until its closure in 1967. In 1982, Marion returned to the workforce, first at K.I. Sawyer and, when the base closed, she did secretarial work, retiring in 1992. Marion was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills, was hardworking, independent, and talented. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, loved cats, flowers, music, and dancing. She and Ed were excellent dancers and went dancing often. Marion greatly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. After raising her own four children, she had the opportunity to raise her oldest grandson, Scottie, both having a great bond and special connection with each other.

A loving mother and grandparent, Marion is survived by her children, Mark (Sherri) Lindstrom of Upton, Wy., Gary Lindstrom of Rock, Alicia (Dewayne) Wasson of North Dakota, and Derek (Janice) Lindstrom of Skandia; her grandchildren, Karen (Mat) Poe, Scott (Brittany) Lindstrom, Mae Lindstrom, Angel Lindstrom, Rachel Lindstrom, Shannon Wasson, Edward Scott “Scottie” Lindstrom, and Robert Lindstrom; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Kiley, and Gavin Poe; special cousin, Kay (Yelle) Wagner; sisters-in-law, Betty Lindstrom of Westport, Ma. and Fran Lindstrom of Austin, Minn.; and nieces, Rhonda (Chuck) Tomblinson and Roni (German) Fuentes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 2018; and her mother, Muriel (Grimes) Yelle in 1975.

Marion’s family extends gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the exceptional nursing staff at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for the warmth, compassion, and care shown and given to our mother during her stay there.
